3. Bye Bye Colombia

English below

English

It is true. Colombia´s reputation among travellers is the right one, at least according to our experience. Colombians are happy and sociable, curious and loudmouths and, most of all, party people and rumberos. Only a few times we experienced silence in Colombia. It´s the opposite, Colombians need the loud noise of music, sometimes strident, to be able to function. We had amazing experiences with the people, especially during the first half of our journey, when we were eager to go back to the Latin world after our second adventure in the United States. But then the shock arrived, the one that each one of us will have to experience sooner or later…Cancer took Ermanno, Evelin´s dad, from this world and made us interrupt our long bicycle trip for one year. Maybe because of this, when we went back to travelling, nothing was the same. Our second Colombian stage was like turning on an old computer, which needs time to reset its programs and start working properly again. People like Julián and Olga, Eugenio, Sammy, Gloria, Martha, helped us to restore our travel memory and our old emotions.

Now that we look back, like we always do when we say “bye bye” to each country, we cannot hide a cheeky smile when we think about our struggle against the Caribbean coast´s heat, the hammocks with vallenato, our tribute to Gabo in his childhood town Aracataca, the volunteer fire fighters who always opened their doors to us (except the ones in San José de Isnos), the village Aguachica with its wonderful Caselles family, Puerto Berrío and its TV reporters Benjamin and Maritza, Antioquia´s people and accent, the Masterchef´s moments with Jorge, Quindio´s coffee plantations, the Amazona´s loneliness and, believe it or not, even the Putumayo´s rainstorms. Colombia has been an amazing kiss from our trip, the best one after our Mexico lindo…

But like moving ants, our compass keeps on signing south, and that is where we go. Ecuador, here we come!!!
